Lamp love

As you know I'm on the hunt for a floor lamp for my living area. I found this option at another of my fav stores Orson & Blake and I think this one might actually be a better choice for my living space. I like the simplicity of it. Just waiting to find out how much!!

Kitchen Refresher : Painted

Following on from my new handles post, yesterday the 2nd step of the kitchen refresh was done - painting of the tiles and sealed edges. I also did a very big scrub of the stove top. It was blurgh and can you believe a nurse used to rent my house!! Now it' s clean, amazing what bi-carb soda and vinegar can get off!

Here's a reminder of the before kitchen

Eeewww the old tiles.....

And the now kitchen
It's not styled as I would usually have my kitchen but it's the for now

Don't mind the old oven, it's not going to be used no matter how much elbow grease I use!

Hopefully early next week the new sink and tap will be in - now that's exciting ;)

Kitchen Refresher : New handles

I posted last week I was starting my kitchen refresher. I have completely redone pretty much every inch of my first little place - except the kitchen. I am going to wait to install a new one so for now I'm doing a few touch ups.

I did the painting of the tiles and am waiting to seal the edges before I post pics. But today I took off the revolting old handles and put the new ones on. Amazing how much different I feel, I don't cringe everytime I have to open a cupboard!

The old and the new
The new handles are Metrik from Ikea - nice simple and clean lined

The old handles, please tell me you understand why I just couldn't touch these??

Space for baby

Everyone I know seems to be having a baby! Well kind of - one friend gave birth to her beautiful baby girl very recently, another a few months ago a gorgeous boy who joined his two big sisters and 2 more friends and colleagues are due very soon. Plus a couple of my other friends have had babies in the last year. I'm surrounded which I love because I think it is the most exciting thing to have a baby (even though I don't know that feeling first hand!)

So to pay tribute to all the beautiful yummy mummies I know (even the soon to be) I went through and found my fav baby rooms. I know, I don't have a child why would I like babies rooms but I just do.

I start with my favourite which is from Bree Oliver. She is about to have her baby and posted on her blog over at A Paddington Perspective her new bubs room. I absolutley love it and if I were to be having a baby, this would be my inspiration. Love the stripes and the colour scheme.

{image Domino}This is the nursery of Jenna Lyons (Creative Director J.Crew) baby boy Beckett. What I love about this and the nursery below is the non traditional sense of a babies room - no frou frou. I love the modern aesthetic, even the use of black.

The kitchen refresher starts

I'm excited people! After not much happening in my first little place of late, today I begun my refresh of the kitchen.

You might remember a few weeks back I posted about my kitchen and that I have now decided to do a few bits and pieces to it to freshen it up for awhile before I invest in a complete new kitchen. So today I put the first coat of primer on the tiles to paint them over (for now).

Feels so good already!
I'll post pics tomorrow when I actually put the paint on.

Exciting news....

I received the announcement today that I have received a promotion at work.

Well my manager is about to go on maternity leave to have her first baby (which is super exciting) and I will be taking on her role in her absence.

It's exciting but can't help but feel a little nervous!

Comments reactivated!

I want to thank everyone for their kind emails of support and feedback on my blog, I really appreciate hearing from all of you.

My dear friend Britt highlighted her disappointment (lovingly) that I don't have comments on my blog. I deactiactivated my comments when I started as I was receiving the emails. But just for her :) I have reactivated my comments.

Please leave me comments as I love to hear what people have to say - good and not so good.

And as a acknowledgement to her I had to post this photo of us and my sister, Bec as little ones!!!

Search is on : Floor Lamp

One of the hardest things for me to decide on for my first little place is something that you would think would be easy - Floor lamp for my living area. I have always wanted a floor lamp, don't know why just love what they can add to a room.

I came across this floor lamp from MRD and I'm thinking this could be the one!

Where I want to stay...Los Angeles

Next time I go to Los Angeles is The Avalon Hotel which was recently refurbished by my design icon, Kelly Wearstler.

Kelly is very well known for her Hollywood Regency style, but she has now moved onto to a new style. It's feeling a little like 80's reinvention or ispiration but I love it, it's very cool.

R.I.P. Alexander McQueen

I woke early this morning to find out the news that extremely talented designer Alexander (Lee) McQueen has passed away. Even though they haven't confirmed how he passed, it is reported he was depressed and committed suicide. His mother passed away only last week.

Such terrible news, really saddens me.

Anna Wintour's statement summed it up beautifully.

• Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief, Vogue: "We are devastated to learn of the death of Alexander McQueen, one of the greatest talents of his generation. He brought a uniquely British sense of daring and aesthetic fearlessness to the global stage of fashion. In such a short career, Alexander McQueen's influence was astonishing—from street style to music culture and the world's museums. His passing marks an insurmountable loss."

Mr Jacobs - Take 2

Still no post on my little place, coming soon I promise!

Until then, it's time to revisit Mr Marc Jacobs and his current Paris apartment. For those that know me, know I love Mr Jacobs so it's only natural I pry into how this very talented man lives!!

Ooops.....correction

I need to make an apology to A-M with my last post. I said it was a renovation but it was actually built from scratch, this whole beautiful house. Every nook and cranny was obsessively planned and I love that attention to detail. I think I was under the impression it was a reno due to the fact people just don't build houses like this here.

This has made me love it even more.

I look forward to the next beautiful house A-M does!

Beautiful Home - The House That A.M Built

Whilst my new little place renovations have come to a bit of a halt temporarily, I need to keep myself inspired and am so glad there are many a design blog to do just that!

Sometime back I came accross this great blog The House That A.M Built.
It's the journey of this beautiful home and it's creator! A.M has renovated this home in Brisbane and I find it truly inspirational and they have done one amazing job! Not only does it look beautiful and all the details have been attended too, it also appears to have a real cosy, family friendly feel to it. What more could you want out of a home! I hope you enjoy these images and thanks to A.M for letting me share x

Love the colours used on the outside and the style of the front facade

I LOVE this kitchen, the style, colours, how it's dressed. This is definitely a kitchen I would love to have everyone gather in

When people think of design usually the laundry is last thought. For some reason I have a fascination with laundries! Not sure why as I'm not heavily domesticated but it's such a great place to design and I really like the one here. I can't wait to do my tiny laundry space

The great room. Beautiful cabinetry, gorgeous fire place.....

The Study. What's there not to love in this space.......

I hope one day when I have children I can give them a playroom like this one. It looks great and is so important for kids to have another space for themselves that isn't their bedroom

Corner sitting nook in master bedroom, gorgeous cushion

One of the boy's rooms

You can't live in Queensland anad not have a swimming pool and a great seating area next to it. What I really like about this area is not only the Adirondack chairs but the mirrors on the back wall.
